Carbon Steel Welding Services
Carbon steel is one of the most widely used grades of steel for CNC machining and GTAW welding processes. Superior Joining Technologies, Inc. has the experience and expertise working with different grades of carbon steel, making sure our carbon steel CNC machined parts and carbon steel GTAW welding services beat your expectations for quality and timely completion.
Carbon steel is an iron-carbon alloy with carbon content ranging from .0218 percent to 2.11 percent. It also contains small amounts of silicon, manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus. Carbon steel has a higher carbon content than mild steel making it less ductile, but stronger. Generally, the higher the carbon content in carbon steel, the higher the hardness and strength, but the lower the plasticity.
Properties and Benefits of Carbon Steel
- Low carbon steel
- Less than .25 percent carbon
- Low hardness and cost
- High ductility, toughness, machinability, and weldability
- Used in automobile body components, structural shapes (I-beams, channel, and angle iron),
- Medium carbon steel
- Between .25 and .6 percent carbon
- Low hardenability
- Medium strength, ductility, and toughness
- Used in railway tracks, train wheels, crankshafts, gears, and machinery parts
- High carbon steel
- Between .6 and 1.25 percent of carbon
- High hardness and strength
- Low ductility
- Used in cutting tools, springs, high strength wire, and dies
CNC Carbon Steel Machining
Superior Joining Technologies, Inc. has years of experience providing carbon steel CNC machined parts for a wide variety of carbon steel products including bolts, nuts, pins, and hooks. CNC machining decreases manufacturing costs, improves production speed, and increases efficiency. We provide tolerances as close as +/- .0002” and complete intricate, finished parts quickly and on time.
Carbon Steel GTAW Welding Services
Superior Joining Technologies, Inc. provides high-quality carbon steel manual welding in the form of our NADCAP accredited Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) or Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) Welding. We provide clean, highly controllable, and precise welds for carbon steel. Additionally, we offer microscopic laser beam welding (Micro LBW), laser welding, seam welding, and resistance spot welding. All of our carbon steel GTAW welding services are suitable for use with carbon steel.

- Hammer, punch, chisel, woodworking tools, and scissors
- T9, T10, T11
- Tools with low impact, high hardness, and wear resistance
- Taps, small drills, dies, and hand saw blades
- T12, T13
- Tools that are not impacted
- Files, scrapers, razors, and measuring tools
- 08F Steel
- Low carbon content, good plasticity, low strength
- Used for stamping parts such as automobile and instrument housing
- 20 # Steel
- Good plasticity and weldability
- Used for parts with low strength and carburized parts
- Examples include hoods, welding containers, small shafts, nuts, washers, and carburized gears
- 45 # Steel
- Good comprehensive mechanical properties after quenching and tempering
- Used for mechanical parts with large force such as gears, connecting rods, machine tools, and spindles
