MFG DAY
MFG Day addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. By working together during and after MFG DAY, manufacturers will begin to address the skilled labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, take charge of the public image of manufacturing, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry. Northern Illinois University Supermileage Team
What is Supermileage®? The Supermileage® competition provides engineering and technology students with a challenging design project that involves the development and construction of a single-person, fuel-efficient vehicle. Vehicles are powered by a small four-cycle engine. The vehicles will run a specified course with the vehicle obtaining the highest combined kilometers per liter (miles per gallon) rating plus design segment points winning the event. Students have the opportunity to set a world fuel economy record and increase public awareness of fuel economy. Engines are donated by Briggs & Stratton.
Women in Manufacturing (WM)
Women in Manufacturing also known as WM began in November 2009 with a small group of Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) members who gathered at the FABTECH tradeshow in Chicago to discuss best practices, business conditions and unique challenges and needs as minorities in the field. This intimate group subsequently met in 2010 and 2011 before broadening its scope to network with women in all areas and industries within manufacturing, offering year-round networking opportunities, mentoring programs, quarterly e-newsletters and an online directory.
Defense Alliance
The Defense Alliance aims to enhance the already-successful network of people and firms created by the Minnesota Defense Industry Roundtable (and the associated on-line Newsletter) begun in 2003.
