In this article, Mary Kaull shares the importance and passion behind the local robotics leagues in the Rockford area—specifically, FIRST Robotics. Superior Joining Technologies, Inc. (SJTI) Owner Teresa Beach-Shelow and Vice President and husband Thom Shelow are strong supporters in the RPS205 robotics teams, offering a $3000 sponsorship alongside over 230 hours of volunteer hours logged with the FIRST Lego League at Eisenhower Middle School.

Beach-Shelow says robotics is important for students because it provides exposure to hands-on projects, programming skills, and provides a medium to apply math and science concepts outside of textbooks.

"This sets students up for scholarships, and job and career advancement opportunities." - Teresa Beach-Shelow
